Let the Right One In / Let me In

Hit harder than you dare, then they'll stop.

Oskar: Short, long, long, short, long...
Eli: Short, long, long, short, long.
Oskar: Exactly. Here...
Eli: What happened to you? There...
Oskar: Some classmates... where do you go to school?
Eli: Oskar, listen... hit back. You've never hit back...
Have you? So do it. Hit back. Hard.
Oskar: There are three of them.
Eli: Hit back even harder. Hit harder than you dare, then they'll stop.
 Oskar: What if?
Eli: Then I'll help you. I can do that.

I want to be left alone.

Eli: So you're back. I want to be left alone.
 Oskar: So do I.
 Eli: Then go home.
Oskar: You go home, I've lived here way longer than you.
 Eli: What's that?
Oskar: This? It's a Rubik's cube.
Eli: Is it some kind of puzzle?
Oskar: Yeah... want to try? You can give it back tomorrow.
Eli: I might not be here tomorrow.
Oskar: The day after, then. But that's it.
Eli: How do you do it?
Oskar: You want each side to be a solid color. Like this... you smell funny. Aren't you cold?
 Eli: No.
 Oskar: Why not?
Eli: I guess I've forgotten how.
 Oskar: See you tomorrow.

I can't be your friend.

Oskar: What are you staring at? Well? Are you looking at me? Well, fuck off!
What's your problem? Are you scared? So, scream. Squeal!
 Eli: What are you doing?
Oskar: Nothing. Do you live here?
Eli: Yeah... I live right here, in the jungle gym.
Oskar: Seriously, where do you live?
 Eli: Next door to you.
Oskar: How do you know where I live?
Eli: Just so you know, I can't be your friend.
 Oskar: What do you mean?
Eli: Does there have to be a reason? That's just the way it is.
Oskar: Are you so sure that I want to be your friend?

What kind of books would that be?

Police Man: The police have ways to determine foul play... Do you remember that fire in Ängby? A house burned down and a body was found inside. We knew that the fire had been set to conceal the fact that the person had been murdered beforehand. So, how could they know that?
 Oskar: Well...
 Police Man: Go ahead.
Oskar: There was no smoke in the lungs of the person who died.
Police Man: That's correct. Did you figure that out right now?
Oskar: No, I read a lot...
Police Man: What kind of books would that be?
Oskar: Newspapers and things like that...

For a few seconds.

Eli pressed a kiss on Oskar’s lips.
For a few seconds Oskar saw through Eli’s eyes.
And what he saw was… Himself.
Only much better, more handsome,
stronger than what he thought of himself.
Seen with love. For a few seconds.

Are you a vampire?

Oskar: Are you a vampire?
Eli: I live off blood... Yes.
Oskar: Are you...dead?
Eli: No. Can't you tell?
 Oskar: But... are you old?
Eli: I'm twelve. But I've been twelve for a long time.

Please... be me, for a little while.

Oskar: Who are you?
 Eli: I'm like you.
 Oskar: What do you mean?
Eli: What are you staring at? Well? Are you looking at me? So scream! Squeal! Those were the first words I heard you say.
  Oskar: I don't kill people.
Eli: But you'd like to, if you could... to get revenge. Right?
Oskar: Yes.
Eli: I do it because I have to. Be me, for a little while. Please... be me, for a little while.

To flee is life.

To flee is life, to linger death.

Then we'll go steady. It'll be you and me.

Eli: Oskar! May I come in? Don't look at me. But you have to say that I can come in.
Oskar: You can come in...
Eli: Close your eyes.
Oskar: How did you get in?
Eli: I flew.
Oskar: Yeah, sure... You're not wearing anything. You're as cold as ice.
Eli: Sorry... is that gross?
Oskar: No...
Eli: Higgledy-piggledy shout. How many fingers are out?
Oskar: Eli... want to go steady?
Eli: What do you mean?
Oskar: Well... do you want to be my girlfriend?
Eli: Oskar... I'm not a girl.
Oskar: Oh... but do you want to go steady or not?
Eli: Couldn't we just keep things the way they are?
Oskar: I guess...
Eli: Do you do anything special when you go steady?
Oskar: No.
Eli: So everything's the same?
Oskar: Yes.
Eli: Then we'll go steady. It'll be you and me.
Oskar: Really? Good.

Do you like me?

Eli: Oskar... Do you like me?
Oskar: Yeah, a lot.
Eli: If I wasn't a girl... would you like me anyway?
Oskar: I suppose so.

How old are you?

Oskar: How did you do it?
Eli: I just twisted it. Do I smell better now?
Oskar: Um, what's your name?
Eli: Eli. What's yours?
Oskar: I'm Oskar. How old are you?
Eli: Twelve... more or less. What about you?
Oskar: Twelve years, eight months and nine days. What do you mean, "more or less"? When's your birthday?
Eli: I don't know.
Oskar: Don't you celebrate your birthday? Your parents... they've got to know. Then you don't get any birthday presents, do you?
Eli: No.
